Sita Mata Sanctuary

117 km from Udaipur 1n Chittorgarh district, this thickly wooded jungle sprawls over the Aravali range and the Malwa plateau with three rivers flowing through the forest. According to the legend, Sita, wife of Lord Rama stayed in this jungle in Rishi Valmiki’s Ashram after she was exiled by Lord Rama.

The common fauna that can be Viewed here includes leopard, hyena, jungle fox, porcupine, sambhar, wild boar and nilgai. There are crocodiles in the reservoir. It is one of the few sanctuaries where the giant brown flying squirrel has reportedly been spotted. Some birds like wood packers, tree pies and jungle fowl can be seen in this reserve.

Nearby a 16century fort founded by Sahasmal, son of legendary Maharana Pratap has been restored and converted into a heritage hotel.
